  2. When the Oculus Rift first showed up at a videogame trade show in 2012, it was meant to be a Kickstarter project for a few VR die-hards. When the first wave of high-end VR headsets landed in 2016, they realized a decades-long dream—but there was another technology already on the horizon. With that in mind, we'll continue to track the best new VR headsets as they are released, so make sure to check back soon for updates. And after you find the right headset, check out our best VR games list. These headsets have slowed to a trickle, and Google has discontinued its Daydream View headset while Samsung hasn't updated the Gear VR since the Galaxy S9's arrival.
People moved around inside a large cube-shaped room with semi-transparent walls onto which stereo images were back-projected from outside. Although they didn't have to wear HMDs, they did need stereo glasses to experience full 3D perception. There remains a significant amount of confusion about the differences between Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality. (Check out our exhaustive primers on Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality for an in-depth look at the differences.) The public seems to think that AR is a phone experience, while only VR requires an HMD. Mixed Reality devices like the Microsoft Hololens use a headset to overlay 3D imagery on top of the real world. https://www.reviewengin.com/virtual-reality-augmented-reality-digital-revolution/
